How Kiraya bots make decisions

A technical explanation of Kiraya’s heuristic board-game bots: cash reserves, set valuation, auctions and trade checks.

A policy over the current board

Kiraya uses a rule-based decision policy, not a neural network or minimax search. The server asks the bot policy for an action when a bot must act. It reads the board, cash, ownership, buildings, mortgages and pending decisions that are also available to human players.

Price is only the starting point

The difficulty profile assigns weights for finishing its own set, denying someone else a set, and keeping cash reserves. Auction bids are capped relative to this estimated value and available cash. Trade checks compare incoming and outgoing value using a tier-specific margin; Expert also blocks trades that complete an opponent’s set.

Development and cash trouble

Normal and higher levels build when their cash policy allows it. Hard and Expert consider board development and stronger liquidation choices. Risk preferences scale the reserves a bot keeps. The game engine still validates every action, including supply, even building, ownership and cash.

Limitations worth understanding

These bots do not plan a full tree of future rolls, learn from your identity, or guarantee optimal play. Randomness and interactions between several players make a valuation policy fallible. The goal is an available opponent for practice and mixed human-bot rooms.
